Man knocked down by vehicle in Toronto identified as Coronation Street actor William Roache

Man who was knocked down by a Honda Civic vehicle at the Toronto Mall yesterday sadly dies in hospital.

He passed away this morning – after sustaining serious injuries following the incident yesterday.

The man has been identified as William Roache, soap opera Coronation Street actor.

The British High Commission in Canada has confirmed the identity of the 87 year old and said they were aware of his visit to Toronto, Canada.

William Roache sustained injuries when a Honda Civic vehicle knocked him down after it failed brakes in front of the Toronto Mall yesterday.

He was rushed to the hospital but passed on due to life-threatening injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident but preliminary reports by the Police show that the vehicle failed brakes.

William Patrick was an English actor. He has played Ken Barlow in the soap opera Coronation Street since its first episode on 9 December 1960. He was listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest-serving male television star in a continuous role.

This is the second loss Coronation Street has had in a week. The soap opera lost an actor on Monday after a short illness. Andrew Hall died yesterday at the age of 65. He was also known for the BBC series Butterflies.
